The Institute for Healthy Living and Chronic Disease Prevention is delighted to co-sponsor with Interior Health to bring the Annual Okanagan Embrace Aging month in March each year.
Embrace Aging is a month long series of events to celebrate and raise awareness about positive aging in the Okanagan valley. The sessions are for everyone – young and old alike, and focus on a variety of topics related to healthy aging and ways to enhance quality of life among seniors.

A Compassionate Community is a community of people who are passionate and committed to improving the experiences of those living with a serious illness, caregiving, dying and grieving. In this presentation, we will share lessons learned from two projects focused on implementing Compassionate Communities. We will discuss the Compassionate Community Index survey and how it was used to develop interventions centered on raising awareness and educating the community and interventions that provided practical support for persons living with declining health, including dementia.

This feature event brings together clinical and research experts to explore how older adults can maintain wellbeing, function, and quality of life throughout the cancer journey. The event will feature a keynote presentation by Dr. Lauren Capozzi, followed by an expert panel with Dr. Flavia DeAngelis, Bonnie Leung, and Dr. Capozzi, facilitated by Dr. Kristen Haase. Together, they will discuss practical, evidence-based strategies to support resilience, recovery, and healthy aging before, during, and after cancer treatment.
