Choose to Move is a six-month program for older adults available all across B.C., with five Okanagan locations in Kelowna, Penticton, Salmon Arm, Vernon and West Kelowna. Based on research from UBC’s Active Aging Research Team led by Drs. Heather McKay and Joannie Sims-Gould, Choose to Move is designed to help seniors to set and meet their physical activity goals. Through the program seniors work with an activity coach to create an action plan for physical activity and receive ongoing support through monthly meetings, one-on-one consultation, and regular check-ins. An opportunity to learn about Choose to Move is included in the 2019 Embrace Aging program. Dr. Sims-Gould is collaborating with IHLCDP Associate and Professor in the School of Health and Exercise Science, Dr. Jennifer Jakobi to establish a healthy aging research cluster at UBC Okanagan.
