From improving AI literacy and quality of life for adults with physical disabilities to the implications of social media on body image and finding effective pathways out of the Canadian criminal justice system, UBCO researchers are set to continue making positive impacts in society after being awarded nearly $1.5 million in new research funding today.
A total of 14 UBCO-led projects were awarded funds as a part of this morning’s announcement of investments into Canadian Research by Karim Bardeesy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. The funds were made available through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Insight and Insight Development Grants programs.
Insight Grants support research excellence in the social sciences and humanities, funding both emerging scholars and established scholars for research initiatives of two to five years.
Insight Development Grants support research in its initial stages, enabling the development of new research questions and experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. Funding is provided for short-term research development projects of up to two years that are proposed by individuals or teams.
