Relieving suffering associated with dying

Barb Pesut

From can’t to can do

Dr. Barb Pesut, IHLCDP Associate and Professor in the School of Nursing at UBCO, has conducted research to support compassion care and quality of life for adults with life-limiting chronic illness for over three decades.  As part of her research, she is implementing programs that support older adults “age-in-place” in their homes or community, and determining how healthcare workers can help to relieve suffering at end-of-life.  The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the importance of this work to the forefront.  Dr. Pesut has held a Canada Research Chair in Health, Ethics and Diversity and, effective April 2020, has been awarded a UBCO’s Principal’s Research Chair (Tier 1) in Palliative and End-of-life Care for Frail and Rural Adult Populations.
