The IHLCDP is pleased to share that seven of our Associates have received Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grants. Congratulations are extended to:
Dr. Karen Ragoonaden and her team on their SSHRC Insight Grant entitled, Mindfulness and Antiracist Education: Developing Critical Reflection (2021 – 2024). The research involves introducing and evaluating mindfulness practices in antiracist education courses delivered at two campuses: UBC Okanagan Campus and Simon Fraser University.
Dr. Eric Li is leading a team that includes Drs. Jennifer Davis, John Graham, Kathy Rush and others, along with collaborators Barb Marcolin and Casey Hamilton. Dr Li’s team received a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant (2021-2014). These grants support formal partnerships between postsecondary institutions and public, private or not-for-profit organizations that will advance knowledge and understanding on critical issues of intellectual, social, economic and cultural significance. In the partnership development project Dr. Li is leading, entitled “Food Odyssey: An exploratory study of the implementation of sustainable and resilient local food systems,” community partners include the Central Okanagan Food Bank, Helen’s Acres, UBC, Cape Breton Island food Network, and ACAP Cape Breton.
