IHLCDP Associate Dr. Donna Kurtz is leading a new project within the BC Interior to explore the relationship between gender, wellness and cultural traditions of Indigenous land-based activities and ceremony related to harvesting. The project will include community member-led activities such as community gatherings, talking circles, and other activities for knowledge sharing. These teachings will be used to build a better understanding of the influence of sex and gender on the health of Indigenous women/girls and men/boys throughout life. The research findings will provide a basis for identifying and addressing health challenges as a pathway to optimal health for Indigenous people. Collaborating with Dr. Kurtz on this CIHR funded project include Dr. Judy Gillespie and IHLCDP Associate Dr. Charlotte Jones.
